Aluflexpack’s history

Our rich history is the cornerstone of our continuing success.
We have grown from a small company to a large industrial group, enriched by the individual strengths and know-how brought by each new member company. Although our journeys did not start at the same time, we have always been travelling in the same direction, sharing our passion and complementary values about manufacturing flexible packaging solutions. Now that our paths have joined, we are moving straight ahead, even stronger together.

1982

Foundation of Folijaplast in Zadar, Croatia

The beginnings of Aluflexpack as we know it today were in small but bold steps, practically in the garage of its founders, more than 40 years ago and under the name Folijaplast. Although subsequently affiliated members (production plants) have even longer histories, this is considered to be the key year that marks the beginning of an extremely successful journey.

1991

Plant relocation to Umag, Croatia

When the Croatian Homeland War began in 1991 and the Zadar production plant was destroyed, all production moved to the more peaceful location of the town of Umag (Croatia), where production operated in a rented space until 1993, when the company’s own production plant was built there.

1995

Renovation of the Zadar plant

Towards the end of the war, the destroyed plant in Zadar was rebuilt and officially reopened in 1995, followed by a big celebration.

Folijaplast Polska, Poland

The company Folijaplast Polska was established in 1995 as a distributor for the Polish market. After Aluflexpack d.o.o. became the successor of Folijaplast, this company changed its name to Aluflexpack Polska. It operates successfully in Poland with a sales office in Poznań and a logistics center in Tychy, and holds a strong position in the large Polish market in both human and pet food, and the pharmaceutical end-market.

2001

Changing the name to Aluflexpack d.o.o.

This year represented a business turning point, when the company and its members continued their journey with the new name Aluflexpack d.o.o. and new leadership. This was the beginning of a new era of business which, in addition to significant human potential, brought financial resources: there followed numerous takeovers and acquisitions, as well as significant expansion and modernisation of production plants.

2003

Cooperation and acquisition of TOF Drniš, Croatia

TOF (Tvornica oplemenjenih folija) in Drniš (Croatia) started cooperating with Aluflexpack Novi in 2003, and in 2012 TOF became Aluflexpack Novi – Drniš plant.

Interestingly, the Drniš plant has a long history, even longer than Folijaplast, in the production of flexible packaging and lacquered and extruded semifinished products. Production dates back to 1959 under the name Dalmacija plastika, which in 1971 joined the OKI corporation (Organska kemijska industrija). In 1984, parts of OKI, together with the TLM company (Tvornica lakih metala) were merged into TOF.

2004

Cooperation and acquisition of Omial, Croatia

Omial (Omiš, Croatia) started cooperation with Aluflexpack in 2004, and later became a part of the Aluflexpack Group, enriching it with knowledge and experience in the processing and production of foil and, most importantly, forming containers and punching lids for both human and pet food. With its huge production capacity, Omial’s production exceeds 1.5 billion aluminium containers annually, and it is one the top three players in the world.

Omial has a rich history dating back to 1975, and like all our member companies, its beginnings lie in the processing and production of flexible packaging.

2006

Acquisition of Baron S.A., Poland

Baron S.A., located in Tychy, Poland and specialising in forming containers and punching lids for the human and pet food industries, was acquired in 2006. Today, Tychy serves as a logistics hub for the distribution of Aluflexpack products on the Polish market.

2012

Acquisition by Montana Tech Components Company

Montana Tech Components AG, owned by Michael Tojner, took over the Aluflexpack Group in 2012. The Montana Tech Components business is based on the use of aluminium as the basic and main material in product manufacture. The Aluflexpack Group became the first company in the Industrial Components division, alongside VARTA and Montana Aerospace.

2013

Acquisition of Process Point Service, Switzerland

Process Point Service (PPS) was founded in 2005 and operates in its production plant in Einsiedeln (Switzerland) and administration office in Triesen (Liechtenstein). PPS joined Aluflexpack in 2013 and enriches the Group with its excellent knowledge and experience in manufacturing semi-rigid aluminium compound containers and lids for the pet and human food industries. Due to the similarity of their production of containers and lids, PPS and its sister company Omial enjoy mutual trust and secure safe contingency plans for our customers.

2015

Acquisition of Eliopack SAS, France

Eliopack, which was founded in 2005, became a part of the Group in 2015. It operates in the French and neighbouring markets, as well as the MENA region, to which we supply high-quality products for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and human food markets. Since joining the Group, numerous investments and business expansions have taken place in Eliopack, strengthening our position in the market.

Since October 2018, Aluflexpack has been enriched by another member – Arimpeks, which is located in Gebze in the Istanbul area, and is Türkiye’s leading manufacturer of blister foil for the Pharmaceutical industry and foil for the Dairy industry. With Arimpeks, we started a new era of business and opened the door to new customers and markets in Türkiye and neighbouring countries for the Group's existing production plants.

Umag plant expansion

During the year 2019, Aluflexpack expanded its production site in Umag, Croatia, in order to increase its stand-up-pouch capacity from 100 million to 1 billion per year. The investment included the construction of completely new production and warehouse buildings, state-of-the-art production equipment, and the relocation of one part of the existing machinery to achieve a more efficient flow of goods.

2019

IPO on the SIX Swiss exchange

Since 28 June 2019, Aluflexpack AG has been listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange to secure the funds necessary for continued growth and successful business development, with Montana Tech Components Group (MTC) remaining the majority shareholder and assuring continuity and stability in strategy and development. The Company has used the proceeds for investments aiming at increasing efficiency and existing production capacities, as well as the internationalisation of its manufacturing footprint.

2020

Acquisition of Top-System, Poland

It specialises in the production and printing of aluminium and PET lids, lid foils in rolls (laminates and monomaterials), and IML labels for the dairy industry. The production plant specialises in the processing and printing of flexible packaging for the dairy, confectionery, and beverage end markets.
